Student Roost is the owner of approx 23,000 Student Accommodation beds, spread across the UK. I started working at the Hollis Croft Site, as a Customer Service Advisor in 2021 and quickly discovered there were lots of opportunities to utilise my background in graphic design.

Housing Fair

My idea for this Sheffield Hallam University Housing Fair was inspired by Yayoi Kusama's interactive Obliteration Room where a room begins as a white space which visitors are invited to cover with stickers.

We asked the students to get involved, and while sticking the white space, we could ask them about accommodation plans and collect data for marketing purposes.

For data capturing purposes, there was a watering can covered with stickers where the students could guess how many stickers were on there. The reward for guessing the correct amount of stickers, was an iPad.

Pricing Graphics

The pricing graphics were made for all 5 sites in Sheffield. Included for A4 price lists to be displayed in reception. A business card size for the back of the teams name card and window displays.

Maintenance calling card

At Hollis Croft, there was a need to let students know that our maintenance team came to repair an issue they had reported.

Sometimes, the maintenance team were unable to fix the issue, either due to not having the parts needed or the student wanting to be present when the job was being completed.

Which left a gap of the students thinking that the job had been forgotten about. To better communicate with them the idea of calling cards were thought of, similar to when you receive a parcel delivery note.

Important numbers

As part of the welcome pack at all Sheffield properties, an important numbers card was provided with the sites reception and out of hours numbers, along with the university mental health numbers and a local taxi company.

This was made as business card size so the students could keep this in their wallets or in the back of their phones for easy access, when they needed it the most.

Positive Affirmations

It all started from a feel good jar and the positive messages the student were leaving for each other. Messages were taken and designed to be able to give to students when feeling worried or stressed.
